Dang this was good. As close as I get to reading anything close to bible stories, since I was a wee private school kiddie. It takes place right before WWI and follows the life and death of two families that live in the marginally developed Salinas Valley and beyond (SJ, SF, Palo Alto, etc.) The characters are similar to the ones that supposedly started the genealogy of civilization (i.e. Adam, the snake, God the Father, Cain and Able).

I also got to borrow another Eisner gr novel "The heart of the storm"...but never finished. I guess I got to caught up in this and war stories aren't too interesting to me. well whatever.
