The city people notebook wasn't as great as the first, but it still was a sweet read covering the issues of space, smell, noise, and rhythm in a big city. Very Georg Simmel-esk... which I <3. I started on 'invisible people', which is super good but leaves me squeamish like reading about bad things that happen to those who don't do anything to cause their fate.

I finally finished this and it has to be one of the best things I've read. It's so rich in history and references to literature (which I can't pinpoint more than half of what he's talking about)... but each chapter covers the various aspects of a library (personal and public), such as 'library as a space"... "island"... "home" ... "order"..."mind" ..."survival"..etc. It's crazy how much is out there and how much we may have lost due to lack of preservation, etc., as well as how reading is such a grasp of power that in the past so many governments have burned books and tried to keep groups of people illiterate to suppress them or rid them of their culture and past. holy shit.
